It is no news that the COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown of all activities that followed will have its effects on food production and security. In fact, the 2020 edition of the Global Report on Food Crises describes the scale of acute hunger in the world and it does not look good. It also provided an analysis of the drivers that are contributing to food crises across the globe, with COVID-19 been one of them. It also went ahead to examine how the pandemic might contribute to their perpetuation or deterioration.
This alongside other factors gives reasons why more attention should be paid to the area of food production and security especially for a growing population like Nigeria with over 200 million people.
In this regard, the LiveBridge Foundation has upped her stake by offering a range of specialized projects and empowerment programs that will benefit individuals as well as communities in the area of Agriculture.
The project aims at encouraging women and youth to engage in the Agricultural sector and further empowering them through the creation of employment opportunities on one hand, as to stimulate economic growth in Nigeria and also to achieve food security and immediate community on the other.
With the support of partners and help from the team of volunteers, LBF Agriculture Program has empowered over 50 workers and counting thereby contributing to the food security, livelihood, and economic resilience of rural communities in these States – FCT, Nasarawa State, Niger State, Bauchi State, and Kogi State.
Undoubtedly, agriculture is one of the most important areas of global concern and as a leading sector of Nigeria’s economy supporting about 60% of the population directly, it contributes to economic growth and development by providing food to the expanding population, increasing the demand for industrial products, providing local foreign exchange earnings for the import of goods, increasing social income, providing productive employment and improving general welfare.
It is to this end that the LiveBridge Foundation has decided to contribute to her quarter.
